The Book Thief

I read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. This book is almost undescribable. It is about a girl named Liesel who is given to foster parents right after her brother dies. Her father begins to teach her to read and she begins to crave to read enough that she steals books. This book was really amazing. It is probably the best of one of the best books i have read this year and that is saying a lot.

Slice of Life

Slice of LIfe

We went up to Vail to go skiing. We put on out boots and skis and went to the lift. The line was really long but it was all worth it. Once we were on the lift out adreniline raised. The higher and higher we went the more we were ready to ski. We had just reached the top and we were ready.

Swallowing Stones

This week I read Swallowing Stones written by Joyce McDonald. This book was about a boy named Michael who fires a rifle into the air and accidentally kills a girl named Jenna's father. They   both have to overcome the challenges that soon face them with this death. This book was pretty good. In my opinion it seemed as though it kind of just went on and on and at sometimes without a point. However, it was not a terrible book. This book is written in the third person but it changes it point of perspective throughout the book. This book it really short it is only about 250 ish pages. It seems like a really easy and "kidish" book, but it has adult content and situations.

Books for Winter Break:

Slice of Life

Our feet started to ache and so we headed over to the benches and pulled of out skated with a great effort. We went to the coffee shop on the corner and as we opened the door the overwhelming rush of warmth and Delicious smells hit us. It was an amazing feeling and at the moment where we could barely walk from soreness it was stunning and incredible.

Limerick Poems

1) There once was a small gnome
    who didn't have a home
     He found a few mice
     then stole all there rice
Then walked all the way to Nome

2) YOu start at the top of the hill
    then accidentally swallow a pill
    when you go down
     you start to frown
then you run into a phil

3) There once was a janitor from Logan
but he didn't have a slogan
    He'd sweep up the halls
    mop up then crawl
    all the way to Hoboken

Walt Disney's Death

When it happened it struck
the county and the world
Some people did not even know
or even cared to notice
But that day
those who had
lost a part of their childhood
and a part of their life
Eventually everyone knew
But the dream did not die with the man
They continued it
The world lost an important
man that day
One who made a mark in
millions of peoples hearts

The Clock

It ticks going all the way around and never stopping
It's so loud like a heart or a drum beat
To me it seems that whenever it's the loudest around us its quiet
but when it is loud around us, it is unheard
I wonder if it is always the same volume
yet we never notice it

Sewer Rats Curse Poem

Sewer Rats

May the roots of a tree come down and
strangle your children
May you spray the runs
on you spouse the day
of your wedding
May you coffin be
put through the sink disposal
Curse snotty rabid chinchilla
onto our family and
great great grand cousin
Break and crush your bones
May you eat so much
you get fatter than
a mattress firm extra cushy super sized
air bed then explode from a tiny sprinkle
that you eat
May your tail be mistaken by a carrot
and gets chopped up
May you be shoved up a donkey butt
To hell you sewer rats

Tangerine

This week I finished Tangerine  by Edward Bloor. This final part of the book I read was really good and had a lot of detail. Paul (the main character) starts to remember things that have affected him and he also does things that he learns to regret. There were many twist and turns in the final lapse of this story. However I do not like how that author ended this book, because i feel like it was kind of dull compared to the rest of the book.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to read it. I think that it has a great story line and overall message.

Free Verse Poem

Free Verse Poem

Its dances down and lands on my cheek,
then melts into a small pond.
One after another, completely the same
cycle over and over. Eventually so many have
fallen they do not melt. The stick together,
until they turn into one big chunk. Soon
the sun shines with and excited glow.
The different streets melt down to lakes
flooding the streets.
I watch this all happen from my
window, where my face feels this whole process
also.

Tangerine

My book group book is Tangerine written by Edward Bloor. So far this book has been really good and really intriguing. This book is written in the first person which was a switch from the last book I had read that had been in third person.

So far this book has been about a guy named Paul who is moving to Florida. He has to go to a new school and once again get out shined by his brother Erik who plays football. His father cares more about football then Paul's own sport which is soccer, even though erik used to play soccer. Many other events happen that effect the story greatly, but if you are thinking of reading this book it would probably give it away.

One For The Murphy's

One For the Murphy's
Haley Russell

One for the Murphy's written by Lynda Mullaly Hunt was one of the most amazing books I have ever read. It is incredibly sad and this book shows that not everyone has the happiest fairy tale ending. This book is about a twelve year old girl named Carley who is put in foster care then goes to live with a family. There are lots of twists and turns and happy and sad moments all throughout the book. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested.

The Candymakers

The CandyMakers

This week I read The Candymakers by Wendy Mass is about four twelve-year-olds who enter into a candy making contest and get to make their candy at an actual factory. However the kids don't turn out to be who they are said to be and everything connects. This book was really good. It is written in the third person and switches points of view, but the author does this really well. This book is about 450 pages so it would be considered a two week book.

Wake

Wake
By Haley Russell

Wake by Amanda Hocking was a really good book. It is also a series book. This book doesn't have inappropriate scenes but does have some extensive language. This book is about a girl named Gemma who meets three girls who just arrived in her town by the sea. After a night of parting with them she feels different swims different and she cant remember anything that happened that night. This book was well written in the third person it switched of from Gemma to her sister, but does it really well. I wouldn't recommend this book if you don't like books that leave you at a cliff hanger and leaves you jaw dropped.

This book is about a girl named Hazel with stage IV lung cancer. Along her journey she becomes friends with a guy named Augustus. She goes to Amsterdam and even though she is put down by her favorite author Augustus it there to help her through it.

Denny marries a women named Eve and they have a daughter named Zoe. Eve gets brain cancer and Eve and Zoe go to live with eve's parents. Denny has to overcome the challenges that he faces.

I really liked this book, the fact that it was told by Enzo made it twelve times better. I liked it because it told a really story and something that could happen to anyone. It wasn't fake. This book does have extensive language and if you are going to read this book check with your parents. The next book I am going to read is The arm of the Starfish by Madeleine L'Engle.

101 Dalmatians

Hi!
This week I read 101 Dalmatians by Dodie Smith. I thought that this book was really great because it is  a story of never giving up. This book was a fiction book, written in the third person. This book was a easy to medium read, because it is written in a way that is easy to read, yet it is about 199 pages. I would recommend this book, because I think that it is a great book and is written in a way that express the way that the main characters are feeling. I would recommend this book to a reader who likes stories that are sad yet they have lots of adventure in them. 101 Dalmatians is a classic tale about Dalmatians and an evil lady who steals them for their fur. This mother and father of the pups must go on a quest to find the lost pups, but they find much more than that. This week I am reading The Arm of the Starfish by Madeleine L'Engle.

Introduction

Introduction-

Hi I'm Haley, . I like to playing sports, and doing art. I am 11 and I have one dog. I like the colors orange, yellow, red, and green. I have read a lot of books over the summer. I like reading most books I am fine with any genre, but I am not a huge fan of non fiction. I like to read a lot of fiction, action, and mystery.

Three Books-

1-
Out of my mind by Sharon Draper
I would recommend this book because it has a really good story line and a amazing message. The main character Melody, is a girl with a photographic memory and Synethesia, but she cant show her talents because she is disabled.

2-
Divergent by Veronica Roth
I love this book it is my favorite book/series of all time. The main character Tris has to use her bravery to face the challenges in the book. This book is really good and i would definitely recommend it.

3-
In a Heartbeat by Loretta Elsworth
This book was a really amazing book. There are two girls and one dies in an iceskating accident and the other girl gets her heart and starts to feel what the first girl used to.
